Diese Geschichte erzählt von Mauis plötzlicher Abneigung gegen rohen Fisch und weiter davon, wie er seine Brüder beim Fischen hintergeht. Ferner wird berichtet, wie Maui sich auf die Suche nach dem Feuer macht und wie er dabei einem Vogel so lange den Hals umdreht, bis dieser ihm das Geheimnis des Feuermachens verrät.

Die Rache des geopferten Sohnes

Diese Legende erzählt, wie die schöne Kamaunui aus Kahiki nach Maui kam und wie sie Hina gebar, wie diese Olopana heiratete und wie dieser seinen Sohn Kamapuaa nach der Geburt den Schweinen zum Fraß vorwarf, wie er später von seinem Sohn terrorisiert wurde, woraufhin Olopana ihn den Göttern opfern lassen wollte, aber von dem wiederauferstandenen „Toten“ erschlagen wurde.

Die Vulkangöttin verschmäht den Schweinemann

Diese Geschichte berichtet, wie Pele und ihre Geschwister nach Hawaii kamen, wo Kamapuaa der Schweinemann sich unsterblich in sie verliebte und um sie warb. Ferner wird erzählt, wie Pele ihn verschmähte, von ihm mit unbändigem Zorn verfolgt wurde, wie sie starb und zur Göttin der Vulkane wurde.

Der ewige Kampf zwischen Feuer und Wasser

In dieser Legende wird erzählt, wie die Vulkangöttin Pele mit dem Mann ihrer Schwester schlief, wie sie daraufhin von der eifersüchtigen Namakaokahai über das Meer hinweg verfolgt wurde und wie sie schließlich nach vielen Mühen auf der großen Insel Hawaii im Krater des Kilauea eine neue Heimat für sich und ihre Familie fand.
